Tank Base Examples

Installation

1. Earth ring of concrete, brick or iron construction a minimum of 100mm greater than the diameter of the tank. Fill is to be consolidated with 10cm of sand on top surface.

2. Reinforced level concrete slab with the diameter to be 100mm greater than tank dimension.

3. 10cms of level sand or equivalent in stable soil with the diameter being 30cms greater than the tank. Cover the exposed sand with a gravel which will prevent erosion by wind or rain.

4. Tank stand made of hardwood decking with gaps no greater than 5cms. Ensure no deflection of decking when tank is full. Secure all piping to tank stand.

Installation

1. Ensure that the site where your tank is to be positioned is level and free from any stones, rocks, etc. as these types of objects may damage the base of your tank.

The tank site must be solid and if you need to fill the site, make sure the fill is well compacted.

There are two options when positioning your tank:
  • Concrete Slab: If you have a slab it must be level and have a smooth surface. The slab must be thick enough to be able to stand the weight of the tank when it is full.
  • Packing Sand: Place your tank on 25-50mm of level packing sand. The diameter of the sand must be at least 250mm larger that the size of the tank. (Sand is used to avoid erosion to the base of your tank).

2. Do not install the tank fittings until the tank has been removed from the delivery vehicle and is positioned in its final resting place. Installing the fittings prior may result in damage to the tank and the incorrect positioning of the fittings.

3. Install a flexible pipe after you have installed your outlet fittings and valves to protect the tank fittings and absorb any shock.
  • The overflow should run away from the tank to ensure the base is not affected.
  • Ensure the outlet pipes are supported and not relying on the tank for stability.

4. Prior to installing taps or fittings to the brass threaded insert you must use a drill to remove the backing material of the tank. You can use the following methods:
  • Use a spade bit to cut out the inner part of the tank.
  • Use a 20-25mm drill bit to drill out the inner part of the tank.
  • Do not to come into contact with the brass insert with the drill bit as this may cause damage.
  • Ensure that the appropriate safety gear is worn at all times.

We recommend that Slimline Tanks have a 50mm concrete base or well compacted 25-50mm packing sand or fine cracker dust to ensure tank is and remains level.





Water Tank Plumbing

1. A minimum of 300mm of flexible piping should be fixed to the outlet drain in order to absorb shocks or shifting. The outlet pipe should be run underground if possible to avoid damage from vehicles, etc.

2. The tank overflow must be piped away from the tank to avoid undermining the base. The overflow pipe diameter must be the same as the inflow pipe.

3. Always ensure that all piping is supported to reduce strain on the fittings and tank walls.



Joining Tanks With Our Uniseal Method

1. Fit The Uniseal into the hole provided in the tank.

2. Preheat lubricant satchel (supplied) in a cup of hot water for 30 seconds then smear a liberal amount of the lubricant all over one end of the joiner also around the Uniseal.

3. Align the second tank opening and repeat step #2.

4. Push the tanks together carefully lining the taper up with the seal opening, as the fitting is tight you will require a helper to push on the other end of the tank otherwise you will push both tanks away without joining.


Please Note:
Ensure that when selecting a site for your tank that the ground is level and is free of soft spots. Ensure that there are no foreign objects such as rocks, stones, tree roots or any other sharp materials. Do Not locate near a retaining wall or embankment without first consulting a professional engineer to ensure the ground is capable of supporting the weight of the full tank and base.
